Rick Echevarría calls on Mayor Bill de Blasio to suspend petition challenges at the City Board of Elections
In a Facebook post published today, New York City Council candidate Rick Echevarría called on Mayor Bill de Blasio (D-New York City) to suspend the ballot petition challenges being mounted at the New York City Board of Elections.
Mayor Bill de Blasio needs to suspend all petition challenges at the Board of Elections.
Candidates shouldn’t be challenging petitions right now. Unfortunately, they are. At least 2 Board of Elections staff members have died for COVID-19 and 10 staffers have tested positive. Safety needs to be our top priority.
The petty politics continues even in the middle of the COVID-19 crisis. The Board of Elections staff should be home, not at work being exposed to COVID-19.
I am also calling on Darma for City Council 37 and Erik Martin Dilan to immediately withdraw all of the petition challenges that they have filed against ALL OPPONENTS in the NYC Council District 37 race and the NY State Assembly race for District 54.
Ballot access for all. Let the voters decide. Public safety first.
A healthy debate took place in the comments of the post.
